Quick thinking by a King County Sheriff’s Office Precinct 4 Deputy helped resolve a dangerous situation without incident in White Center earlier this week:

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, KCSO Deputy Tompkins was patrolling the area near 15th Ave. SW and SW 98th Street in White Center when he observed two males attempting to break in to a vehicle.

Deputy Tompkins made contact with them, and during a safety sweep he discovered that one of the suspects had a handgun in his waistband.

As he waited for backup to arrive, Deputy Tompkins was able to gain compliance from both males simply by talking to them, explaining why he stopped them, and the importance of following his directives.

Additional deputies arrived on scene and, in addition to the handgun, a set of brass knuckles was also recovered during the incident.

Both suspects were arrested and cited, and nothing was missing from the victim’s vehicle.

“A great application of training methods helped achieve a safe resolution to this encounter,” police said.
