Artist Andrew Schons – aka @Pazuzu810 – loves White Center, but when he saw businesses along the main downtown core all boarded up, he decided to paint some relevant, pandemic-themed messages.

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, all his art shows and classes were cancelled, so Andrew had plenty of time to paint.

And paint he did – check out some of his work below:

ANDREW’S PROCESS
“I start my murals by priming the plywood with cheap house paint the night before I paint,” he said. “I paint my murals using spray paint, and don’t usually know what I’m going to paint until I begin painting. I try to paint fun things that can tell a story & put a smile on peoples faces. I considered doing paintings about wearing a mask or keeping 6 feet away, but I think most people are already well aware of that & would like a distraction from what’s shutting everything down.”

Andrew told The White Center Blog that some people have asked about preserving the murals after the pandemic is over.

“…but I don’t think they can ever be appreciated outside of the context they are currently in,” he said. “Creating these works of art has allowed me to connect with my community in a way that I never thought possible, and seeing smiles on peoples faces brings great joy to my heart. I would not be able to continue painting if it weren’t for the support and love I get from everybody in White Center.”

He’s received plenty of great feedback from the community:
